Princess Sibuyiselwe Angela Buthelezi, the youngest daughter of the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, has died.
She was 55.
The princess, who was also a Member of Parliament for the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), passed away in the early hours of Monday, 21 October, after being admitted to a Cape Town hospital last week, the Daily Sun reported.
Princess Sibuyiselwe Angela Buthelezi Has Died
The Buthelezi family confirmed the news through Prince Zuzifa Buthelezi, the inkosi of the Buthelezi clan.
“In the early hours of this morning, the Buthelezi family received the devastating news of the untimely passing of her royal highness Princess Sibuyiselwe Angela Buthelezi.
“It is with deep pain that we share this loss with the nation. Princess Angela, the youngest child of the late uMntwana waKwaPhindangene, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and the late undlunkulu Princess Irene, departed this world unexpectedly, having been admitted to hospital a week ago,” Prince Zuzifa said in a statement.
Health Woes
Princess Angela, from Mahlabathini in KwaZulu-Natal, had travelled to Cape Town to attend a Parliamentary sitting when she fell ill. According to Prince Zuzifa, her health had been poor for several years, but her sudden passing came as a shock to the family.
“Together with my older sister, Princess Phumzile Buthelezi, Prince Angela and I were the last remaining children of uMntwana waKwaPhindangene, among eight siblings. The loss of Princess Angela just a year after the passing of our father is a terrible shock. While her health was not perfect for several years, we did not expect this sudden news,” he added.
The Buthelezi family is expected to announce funeral arrangements in the coming days. Princess Angela is survived by her only child, Princess Ntando Nkeiruka.
