Queen Sono Cancelled, Generations: The Legacy Gaddafi Unemployed

Recently, actor Vuyo Dabula made headlines confirming that he is leaving Generations: The Legacy for Netflix’s Queen Sono 2.

However, the actor might have made a wrong move as it turns out that after a few weeks, Gaddafi is now unemployed.

The fate of Gaddafi comes after season two of Queen Sono faced a variety of production challenges that were brought by Covid-19 among other things.

Director and creator of the show; Kagiso Lediga said the show “could not be executed during these current trying times”.

Queen Sono which is Netflix’s first African original series, followed a highly trained South African spy played by an actress; Pearl Thusi.

Vuyo Dabula who played the role of Shandu on the show was Queen Sono’s romantic interest.
Dabula left everyone startled by his decision to leave Generations because it provides a more stable income. Now that Netflix has canceled Queen Sono, will Dabula beg for his job back?

A Netflix representative had this to say about the cancellation:

“We’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with season 2 of Queen Sono.”

He further stated:

“We are incredibly proud of the Diprente team for sharing their audacious vision and bringing it to life with Netflix. A huge thank you to our fans across the world for the love shared for our first African Original series. Netflix is also grateful to the amazing efforts shown by the cast and crew for their stellar efforts in creating this show for our members around the world. We’ll continue to work closely with South Africa’s creative industry to keep producing more compelling ‘Made-in-South Africa’ stories.”

Other local productions coming soon to Netflix from South Africa include How to Ruin Christmas, JIVA!, Blood & Water season 2, Kings of Joburg, and Riding with Sugar which will be streaming from Friday.
