Police Launch High-Level Investigation

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola confirmed that R27 000 in cash was found in his Mpambane’s possession.

He ruled out theft as a motive.

It doesn’t look like they took anything because his laptop, some cash and his cellphones were found in the car. It’s something else because nothing was taken from him. We are looking at all angles in terms of the investigation with a view to find out what this is all about,” said Masemola.

Forensic experts and detectives have since been deployed to the scene, and the South African Police Service (SAPS) is treating the matter as a high-priority case.

WSU Condemns Brutal Killing

In an official statement seen by The Citizen, WSU said it was deeply shaken by this tragic event” and extended heartfelt condolences to Mpambane’s family and colleagues. The university confirmed that a full investigation is underway.

WSU condemns this heinous act in the strongest possible terms and demands that those responsible face the full might of the law,” the statement read.

Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Rushiella Songca described Mpambane as an “exceptional leader and hard worker.”

“His untimely passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt. We stand together in this dark moment, as we mourn this tragic loss,” she added.

Minister Nkabane Raises Alarm Over Campus Violence

Minister of Higher Education Nobuhle Nkabane has voiced concern over the ongoing violence at the institution, calling for increased efforts to protect staff and restore order at higher learning facilities.

Meanwhile, the university has appealed to the broader community to remain calm and united as investigations continue.
