Mpumlwana’s Response: A Case of Misunderstanding

Mpumlwana, however, maintained her innocence, stating that the incident was a misunderstanding. She explained her side of the story to the police, emphasizing that she had no intention of stealing the items. Despite her explanation, the store management insisted on pressing charges, leading to her arrest.

The actress was subsequently taken to the Randburg Police Station, where she was formally charged with shoplifting. She was later released on bail set at R1,000 and appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on March 20, 2025. During her court appearance, Mpumlwana was not required to enter a plea, and the case was postponed to May 2 for further proceedings.

Police Express Surprise at Store’s Decision

The arresting officer expressed astonishment at Dis-Chem’s decision to pursue legal action against Mpumlwana. In many similar cases, stores often opt to issue a warning or impose minor penalties, such as requiring the individual to perform community service within the store. However, in this instance, the management chose to take a stricter approach.

“It seems they wanted to make an example of her,” the officer remarked. “They likely aimed to send a clear message that such actions would not be tolerated, regardless of the individual’s social standing.”

“It was just a misunderstanding. Please send any further questions in writing so that my management can provide an official response.”

Her fans and colleagues have expressed their support, with many urging the public to withhold judgment until all the facts are presented in court.
