It has been revealed that the man who recently killed his wife and son because of paternity doubts is Former Police Minister Bheki Cele’s nephew.
According to reports, 24-year-old Mlondi Cele, Bongeka’s boyfriend, is believed to have killed them before taking his own life. Mlondi reportedly accused Bongeka of giving birth to a child who was not his, as suggested in a WhatsApp voice note sent shortly before the incident.
Bodies Discovered at the Scene of the Crime
The gruesome discovery was made in a small RDP house in Danganya, Umgababa, south of Durban. Bongeka’s body was found in the bedroom, while her son’s was located just a few meters away. Both victims had suffered fatal throat injuries. Mlondi was found hanging in the lounge, adding to the horror of the scene.

The house, according to family members, had belonged to Mlondi’s late father, who was murdered three years ago. The tragic history of the home has left both families shattered.
Family Reactions and Devastation
Bheki Cele, a former police minister and Mlondi’s uncle, expressed his devastation upon hearing the tragic news.
“I received a call at 5:50 AM informing me of what had happened. Mlondi had sent a voice note to a family member, detailing where the keys to the house could be found.”
Bheki described Mlondi as a young man prone to outbursts of anger, particularly after losing his job several months ago.
“He had been unemployed for over four months and was deeply frustrated.”
Bheki said, adding that the family wished Mlondi had only taken his own life rather than ending the lives of two innocent people.
Signs Leading to the Tragedy
It is believed the incident took place on Thursday night. Family members noted that the bed in the house was neatly made and clothes were folded, suggesting the couple had not slept. Mlondi had also posted a photograph online, claiming to reveal the true father of the child, further intensifying the emotional turmoil that preceded the killings.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found identity documents placed on the bed, alongside a damaged cellphone belonging to Bongeka. Blood evidence indicated that some time had passed since the horrific events unfolded.
