The cause of death of Ukhozi FM’s presenter, Bheka “Beekay” Mchunu, has been disclosed following his untimely passing on Tuesday, 12 March.

 

Family Reveals What Caused The Death Of Ukhozi FM Presenter Bheka “Beekay” Mchunu

According to his brother, Sfiso Mchunu, Beekay had been experiencing discomfort in his chest before his demise at the age of 45. Sfiso, still reeling from the shock, recounted the tragic events, expressing his disbelief as he witnessed his brother’s sudden decline.

“I was trying to rush him to the hospital. Everything happened in front of me. I thought there was something they were going to do to help him. It was already late,” he shared.

In 2021, Beekay collapsed at Ukhozi FM and had to be away from the studio for three weeks.

Beekay was not only a prominent figure on Ukhozi FM but also a beacon of support for many. Sfiso praised his brother’s selflessness, citing Beekay’s dedication to assisting students through Matric upgrade programs as evidence of his kind-hearted nature.

Beekay’s influence extended beyond the airwaves as the founder and director of KZN Matric Excellence, where he aided numerous students in improving their academic prospects.

Tributes Pour In For the Presenter

As plans for his memorial and funeral services await confirmation, tributes continue to pour in from various quarters.

The Economic Freedom Fighters in KZN honoured Beekay’s cultural contributions,

“Mchunu was well-known for presenting “Sigiya Nengoma” a weekend maskandi show that has a platform of more than 2 million listeners, was a cultural ambassador who used radio as a platform to promote culture, indigenous languages, and cultural music,” they said.

Fellow Ukhozi FM presenter Dudu Khoza is still in shock over Beekay’s untimely death.

“Words cannot express enough how I feel right now. My condolences to Mchunu’s family,” she said. 

Zimiphi ‘Zimdollar’ Biyela mourned:

“We are crying with you as the Ukhozi team. We wish those affected by his death well.”
