According to his brother, Sfiso Mchunu, Beekay had been experiencing discomfort in his chest before his demise at the age of 45. Sfiso, still reeling from the shock, recounted the tragic events, expressing his disbelief as he witnessed his brother’s sudden decline.

“I was trying to rush him to the hospital. Everything happened in front of me. I thought there was something they were going to do to help him. It was already late,” he shared.

In 2021, Beekay collapsed at Ukhozi FM and had to be away from the studio for three weeks.

Beekay was not only a prominent figure on Ukhozi FM but also a beacon of support for many. Sfiso praised his brother’s selflessness, citing Beekay’s dedication to assisting students through Matric upgrade programs as evidence of his kind-hearted nature.

Beekay’s influence extended beyond the airwaves as the founder and director of KZN Matric Excellence, where he aided numerous students in improving their academic prospects.
