A Roodepoort police officer has died after being attacked by her own pit bulls at a home in Dobsonville Gardens, Soweto. The fatal incident was confirmed by South Africa’s Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) cluster on Friday, 11 September 2026.
The officer, Warrant Officer Mmaleho Olga Bawa, was attached to Roodepoort SAPS. She was found dead at the residence following the reported attack.

The JCPS cluster said the dogs involved were reportedly pit bulls and offered condolences to Bawa’s family, colleagues and loved ones.
The cluster said:
“Warrant Officer Mmaleho Olga Bawa attached to Roodepoort SAPS, was found deceased at a residence in Dobsonville Gardens, Soweto.”
It added:
“She was attacked to death by her dogs (reportedly pit bulls). We extend our deepest condolences to the family, colleagues and loved ones of Warrant Officer Bawa.”
The circumstances leading to the attack have not been fully disclosed.
