Recently, it was announced that the production of Uzalo season 7 will not start as scheduled. Production contracts process with SABC was cited as the cause and payments were not made.

However, there is a twist of events as it has  been reported that SABC 1 just inked a 3 year deal with Stained Glass TV, which is owned by former president Jacob Zuma’s daughter; Gugulethu Zuma Ncube and Pepsi Pokane.

Uzalo remains the most viewed soapie in Mzansi’s with reported 8.8million views in October. The recent deal between SABC 1 and the soapie is the longest deal that the SABC has ever signed with any soapie

Recent media reports stated that the show was put on notice by the SABC, to come up with creative storylines or face being canned following months of “boring” content and declining viewership.

The show reported an 11.4million viewership in April and declined to an 8.8 million viewership in October.

It was also revealed that the SABC instructed the production company; Stained Glass TV to ensure that all actors were paid decent salaries, as the broadcaster was unhappy with the low salaries some actors were earning on the show. Season 7 begins in March 2021.
