SASSA Yet to Confirm April Grant Dates, Urges Calm

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has moved to reassure beneficiaries after payment dates for April were not announced as expected, saying there is no cause for concern.

The agency confirmed that grants will continue to be paid, even though the schedule for the new financial year has not yet been made public.

Administrative Process Causing Delay

According to SASSA, the delay stems from pending approvals required before the new payment calendar can be released.

The proposed dates for the 2026/2027 financial year are currently awaiting clearance from the National Treasury, a standard process aimed at aligning disbursements with government financial systems.

Payments to Continue as Normal

SASSA spokesperson Andile Tshona said beneficiaries should not worry, as the absence of confirmed dates does not affect the continuation of payments.

He assured recipients that once approvals are finalised, the schedule will be released and disbursements will proceed in the usual manner.

Millions Depend on Social Grants

The agency distributes over 19 million grants each month, supporting vulnerable groups across South Africa. These include pensions for the elderly, disability support, and child-focused grants.

Given the scale of the programme, the release of payment dates is closely watched by millions who rely on the funds for daily needs.

Standard Payment System Remains

Typically, SASSA staggers payments over three days at the beginning of each month, prioritising older persons, followed by disability and children’s grants.

This system is expected to remain in place once the new schedule is confirmed.

Grant Values Hold Steady

Current grant amounts remain unchanged, with key payments including R2 315 for Old Age and Disability Grants, R2 335 for those over 75, and R560 for the Child Support Grant. The Social Relief of Distress grant continues at R370.

Awaiting Final Announcement

Authorities say the remaining administrative steps are being finalised, after which the April payment dates will be communicated to the public.

Until then, SASSA has reiterated its message: beneficiaries will receive their grants as usual, and there is no disruption to the system.
