Sometime in 2014, the house was broken into by robbers at around 4 am in the morning. The robbers held Gugu Gumede at knifepoint and demanded cash and other valuables.
Magwaza-Msibi was upset that her daughter was terrorized by the robbers and indicated that Gugu was traumatized by the incident. She said at the time:

It’s a very traumatic experience and my daughter, who was at the house at the time, is still in shock and traumatised.

“While I am grateful that my daughter was not hurt, as a mother, I cannot imagine the trauma she went through as she was accosted by armed men.”

In November last year, the High Court ordered the sheriff to attach Magwaza-Msibi’s assets, including her, house after she reportedly failed to pay R238 000 in legal fees to Kunene and Associate for a case she lost. The issue was resolved and the money matters seemed to have been settled.
