Gugu Gumede also comes from noble stock, both her parents were esteemed politicians, her mother being Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi who was the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of South Africa in the cabinet of Jacob Zuma.
Her father is the late Simon Hulumeni Gumede who was the member of the KZN legislature and of IFP before he died in 2017 in a car crash.
