Luxury Cars Worth Millions at Risk as SARS Targets Shauwn Mkhize Tax Debt
Wealthy businesswoman Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize is facing the prospect of losing multiple luxury vehicles valued at millions of rand due to an outstanding tax debt owed to the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
SARS Targets MaMkhize’s Luxury Car Fleet Over Tax Debt
According to Zimoja, SARS has filed an execution application at the Pietermaritzburg High Court to seize 13 luxury cars registered under a trust owned by Mkhize’s brother, Melusi Sphelele Hugh Mkhize, and her two nieces. Curator Jaco Venter was appointed to conduct an inspection at Mkhize’s business premises for the seizure operation.
The luxury vehicles targeted include a Rolls Royce Cullinan, Porsche Urus, Mercedes-Maybach, 2 BMW X6s, and a BMW X5, among others. These cars are owned by the Shandi Trust, which is linked to Mkhize’s Royal AM football club.

Shandi Trust at the Heart of MaMkhize’s Tax Troubles
According to court documents, the Shandi Trust, which is co-owned by two of Mkhize’s nephews and her brother, owes SARS nearly R38 million in outstanding taxes. SARS officials, accompanied by the court-appointed curator, visited Mkhize’s luxury residence in La Lucia, Umhlanga, as well as her mansion in Sandton, Johannesburg, to serve the necessary legal documents.
However, the visits did not go smoothly. At the Sandton property, Mkhize’s private security guards reportedly prevented the SARS officials and the curator from entering, leading to a standoff that required police intervention to resolve.
“She blocked the garage windows with newspapers so that there would be no clear view as a signal that she has been tipped off that SARS and the curator will be coming to attach and remove assets,” a source revealed.
Divorce Proceedings Complicate MaMkhize’s Financial Woes
The ongoing legal tussle is further complicated by Mkhize’s estranged husband, Sbu Mpisane, who has also been affected by the SARS seizure. Mpisane, who is awaiting the completion of the couple’s divorce settlement, stated that he had lost everything, although he claimed he would pay double the amount Mkhize requested in the divorce case, leading to the postponement of the proceedings.
The High Court has granted a preservation order against the Shandi Trust, allowing the curator to take control of the shares held by the trust in Royal AM Football Club and DPA Project Managers and Facilitators, a company allegedly linked to Mkhize’s business activities.
