On Sunday, 23 July, a video was posted on Twitter featuring First Lady Tshepo Motsepe, the wife of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, speaking about her relationship with the President.

Love After Two Marriages

Before meeting his current wife, President Cyril Ramaphosa was married twice before. First to a woman known as Hope, whom he was with from 1978 to 1989, and then to Nomazizi Mtshotshisa from 1991 to 1993. It seems that the third time was a charm, as after getting hitched to South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe’s sister, Tshepo Motsepe, Ramaphosa finally found lasting love.

First Lady’s first appearance reveals Ramaphosa was not her first choice

The First Lady recently topped the Twitter trends list after sharing that she met Ramaphosa on a blind date arranged by her friends. Speaking casually in Afrikaans, she revealed that at the time, she was 33 years old and her friends kept reminding her of her age, urging her to settle down. Interestingly, she humorously disclosed that Ramaphosa was not even her first choice, but rather her sixth choice, as she had other options in mind.

Tshepo Motsepe, often overshadowed by her marital status and being Patrice Motsepe’s sister, is a remarkable woman in her own right. At 70 years old, she is a highly educated doctor and has achieved significant success. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and she holds a Master of Public Health in Maternal Child Health and Aging, earning these qualifications from the prestigious Harvard School of Public Health.
