Renowned rapper and songwriter Reason, whose real name is Sizwe Alkaline, has publicly defended his girlfriend, Gigi Lamayne, following disrespectful comments made by podcasters Thakgi and Sfiso Ndlovu.
The podcasters had insinuated that Gigi Lamayne was a “downgrade” compared to Reason’s previous relationship with Metro FM host Luthando “LootLove” Shosha.
The Controversial Podcast Episode
During the podcast, Sfiso Ndlovu sparked the controversy by asking,
“Do you think he downgraded? From LootLove to Gigi Lamayne?” Thakgi responded by saying, “In terms of standard, I feel like it’s dropped a bit.”
These comments quickly gained traction online, leading to widespread discussion and criticism.
Reason, who had been listening to the episode, decided to address the issue head-on. He joined the podcasters live on air, challenging their remarks and demanding accountability.

Sizwe Alkaline Fiery Response

“So comfortable talking about me that you might as well talk about me while I’m here. Last week, Sfiso made a comment about Gigi being a downgrade. I came here to understand what that conversation was about. What part of the game is this?”
He continued,
“What gives anyone the right to call anyone a downgrade? How did you quantify that my current girlfriend is a downgrade from my ex? I’m not dating someone because of their powerhouse. I am not dating someone because of what they have. I’m in a relationship with somebody because I love them.”
Sizwe Alkaline emphasized that his relationship with Gigi Lamayne is based on genuine love and respect, not superficial standards. He also criticized the podcasters for setting a poor example for their audience, particularly young listeners.

Podcasters Issue an Apology
Following Reason’s passionate defence, the podcasters issued a public apology. They expressed regret for their comments and acknowledged that their remarks were inappropriate. Thakgi and Sfiso Ndlovu stated that they wished the segment had never been published.
Reason shared the apology on his social media timeline with the caption, “At the end of the day, let it be known I am not the one.” This statement reinforced his stance on standing up for his loved ones and not tolerating disrespect.
