Skeem Saam Emkay Speaks On His Calling As Sangoma

Skeem Saam star, Emkay Biyela on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) 1 soap opera Skeem Saam has opened up on his acting career as well as his spiritual journey as a sangoma.

His real name is Mlungisi Bafana Mathe and he is from KwaZulu-Natal.  He is serious about his religion and was a church youth leader and a preacher earlier on in his life before eventually becoming a pastor.

Although he comes from a religion that demonises ancestral worship,  along the way, Mlungisi got a calling from his ancestors which he embraced.

Mlungisi, whose character Emkay has a reputation of being a Cassanova on Skeem Saam, is actually very sober-minded in real life. He took the calling from his ancestors seriously and trained to become a traditional healer, sangoma.

Mlungisi has chosen not to speak out about his journey as a traditional healer, preferring to show his experiences through pictures. The actor has been sharing photos that show him practicing his ancestral callings and wearing traditional healer regalia.

“After finishing his training he wrote, S’yakhuleka nasemini ku Mvelinqangi👏🏽 “The new generation of healers”
