South Africa Reacts To Somizi Stealing Cooking Show Idea Allegations
Media personality, Somizi Mhlongo-Motaung is currently trending on social media but not for all the right reasons.
Damning allegations that the Idols SA judge stole the concept for his hit cooking show, Dinner At Somizi’s from Hastings Moeng have amerged.
Moeng reportedly pitched the concept for the television show which he had termed “Dinner Kwa Somizi” in an email on 28 July 2014 and nothing materialized at the time.
However, Moeng is said to have been shocked to see the show airing this year without any further input from him.
The scandal has resulted in mixed reactions from South African social media users with some not impressed with Somizi’s alleged theft and have expressed their disappointment over the issue.
However, some are defending the media personality saying that the idea was too general and that Somii was merely following his own version of the concept.
Below are some of the reactions from South African social media users to the Dinner at Somizi’s scandal.
The sad reality of the #DinnerAtSomizis saga is that the doors will now be shut to emerging producers because broadcasters will claim to be protecting themselves from concept theft.
Only a select elite in the game will get the opportunity to pitch ideas. Content will be stale.

I remember hearing that Somizi has an ancestor that’s providing him with his concepts but it appears like the #DinnerAtSomizis was stolen, does this mean That ancestor is a tsotsi? pic.twitter.com/IvCG72oGtN

Before we Conclude, consider the following:
1. The idea could have been stolen by the producer and pitched to Somizi without him knowing where it originates from.2. The idea could have been stolen by both the producer and Somizi.
3. The idea was not stolen.#DinnerAtSomizis

On 28 July 2014, Hastings Moeng proposed #DinnerAtSomizis to Somizi & Themba. The description of the show is materially similar to the one now flighted (to the shock of Mr Moeng). See the 2014 email below and decide for yourself. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/QVcpJIAY8o

So let me get this straight, in 2014 Hasting Moeng pitched the “Dinner Kwa Somizi” idea to Somizi with all the elements explaining how the show would work and potential sponsors. Years later Somizi stole that idea without including the person who pitched it to him? That’s evil.
