The woman accused of selling meat suspected to be human flesh at the Marabastad market has been granted bail. Traders at the market confronted the woman, believed to be in her early forties, and dragged her to the police station after she reportedly exhibited some suspicious behavior.

One of the market women, who spoke to iMzansi, said the seller was found carrying a broken tray with the suspicious pieces of meat in it.

The police said that the meat which had been confiscated was undergoing test to ascertain the type.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Marabastad Police had said the results of test would be ready by today Wednesday July 20.

“What we are now left with is the scientific examination of the said substance that was being alleged was human flesh. We hope that by close of next week we should have the results or the report,” the PRO told iMzansi.

It was also noted that, the police have information suggesting that the meat may have come from a butcher in Soshanguve.

“We have a statement indicating that a butcher sold the meat to this woman. He is Ali Bakari and he has given a written statement to that effect.

“On the said morning, the woman came to him to buy the meat so we also have a statement with regard to that,” she revealed.

The woman who said she originally comes from Zimbabwe said she had bought the meat earlier that daya and was anticipating a good goulash with her family.
