South Africans Mock Takealot for Hiring Illegal Zimbabweans After Video Shows Two Motorists Being Beaten Up by Mr D Drivers
A video showing Mr D delivery drivers repeatedly beating two white motorists in Centurion has gone viral, but instead of outrage, South Africans have taken the opportunity to mock Takealot for allegedly hiring illegal Zimbabwean nationals.

The footage shows a man and a younger passenger surrounded by several drivers who take turns assaulting them. The incident reportedly occurred near Wierda Road, close to Sutherland Ridge, during a funeral procession for a Mr D driver who recently died in a motorcycle accident.
Takealot explained that the altercation started after the motorist disrupted the procession, causing a minor accident.
“The other independent contractor drivers tried to diffuse the situation,” the company said.

Takealot Responds, Defends Policies
Takealot has distanced itself from the altercation, emphasizing that Mr D drivers are independent contractors, not employees.
“The conduct displayed by the independent contractor driver is not congruent with the policies and procedures we abide by at Mr D. While the situation was sombre and emotionally charged, there is no excuse for any of our partners to conduct themselves in the manner displayed in the video,” the company stated.
Takealot also noted that it had engaged with the relevant franchisee and would take disciplinary measures against the drivers involved.
“We are committed to ensuring that all partners on our platform uphold the highest standards of professionalism and conduct,” the company added.

Instead of expressing anger over the assault, South Africans took to social media to mock Takealot for allegedly prioritizing Zimbabwean nationals over locals in its hiring practices.
