Police Captain Guns Down Girlfriend and Her Brother Before Taking His Own Life
A Gauteng police captain shot and killed his girlfriend and her brother before turning the gun on himself during a birthday celebration in Protea Glen, Soweto, on Saturday night.
The horrific incident has left the community in shock and raised serious concerns about mental health support within law enforcement.
Three Others Injured in Brutal Shooting
According to police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the captain pulled his girlfriend aside before suddenly opening fire. He shot and killed her and her brother, and injured three other civilians. He then turned the firearm on himself, taking his own life.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and police are continuing to investigate.

Commissioner Urges Officers to Seek Help
Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni expressed deep sorrow following the tragedy, calling on police officers to utilise support services available through the Employee Health and Wellness programme.
“We give our members these tools to protect themselves against criminals,” said Mthombeni. “So it is very disheartening to see the very same tools being used to kill their loved ones.”

Inquest and Murder Investigations Underway
Police have opened an inquest docket along with multiple murder and attempted murder cases.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing as they work to establish what led to the deadly shooting.
