The Western Cape Floods

This comes after Charlotte Powell, the spokesperson for the city’s disaster risk management, issued a warning on Monday, urging residents of Cape Town to exercise caution while driving. The Western Cape has been experiencing heavy rains and strong winds since Sunday night.

Western Cape provincial traffic authorities told the media that a section of the N2 highway in Botriver, in the Overberg region, has been entirely washed away.

This occurred following the river overflowing earlier in the day, with rapidly rising water levels overwhelming the roadway.

The traffic officials told Sunday World:

“Several roads are closed due to heavy rainfall and excessive flooding across large parts of the Western Cape. The province is experiencing an intense cold front, bringing gale force winds.”
