Prolific artist DJ Zinhle is getting rare credit on social media after her husband Mörda and Thabo Smol cooked up a Black Motion reunion.
The Heartbreaking Split Black Motion
Mörda, born Bongani Mohosana, and Thabo Smol, real name Thabo Mabogwane, had a toxic musical breakup in 2022. The duo behind the iconic Afro-house group Black Motion came from the lowly streets of Soshanguve in 2010 to become international stars.
Two years ago, they startled fans when they parted ways, citing “creative differences” and the desire to pursue solo projects. On paper, it sounded civil and tolerable. In real life, it was carnage.

Mörda reportedly stormed the Black Motion offices and snatched recording equipment, including a TV and hard drives. He claimed that he co-owned the appliances. The management behind Black Motion dragged him to the Johannesburg High Court, which forced Mörda to return the loot.
People then blamed DJ Zinhle for the Black Motion spat because she had tied the knot with Mörda months before. Thabo Smol refuted the suspicions in February this year, absolving the Umlilo smash hitmaker.
“I don’t want to lie; that phase was a very weird time for me. It’s unexplainable, actually, because we were just fresh from the pandemic, and I thought we were trying to rebuild from the time lost under lockdown. Then you find out that you’re not going to rebuild, but instead, you’d be starting from scratch, Smol told SowetanLive recently.“
Kabelo ‘Problem Child’ Koma replaced Mörda, and Black Motion continued.

The Return of Black Motion
Mörda and Thabo Smol have made peace in a pleasantly surprising turn of events.
Earlier this week, Smol, the drummer, smacked fans with a clip of Black Motion’s upcoming song Takala Zwino. Mörda features on the song as a standalone artist alongside Afrikan Roots and DJ Bucks. The track hits the streets on 20 May.

Thabo Smol explained how the song came about:
“I was playing live a couple of months ago sharing this new song; this sparked interest from Afrikan Roots, and Buckz said he too would like to hop on. Somehow, our live session was shared on the Tsa ko Pitori Instagram page of us in the studio, which Mörda saw… he then asked to join in the song. I saw no issue and agreed mainly because I knew the joy it’d bring to people.”
DJ Zinhle Gets credit For Black Motion Reunion
Tweeps could not contain their excitement over the newfound peace between Mörda and Thabo Smol. They hilariously expressed gratitude to DJ Zinhle, saying she made it possible.
