Metro FM’s Tbo Touch has set social media ablaze with his firm stance on gender roles in relationships.

Tbo Touch Stirs Controversy Over Household Finances

During an interview with L-Tido, the media personality dismissed the idea of a 50/50 financial split, insisting that men should bear full responsibility for household expenses.

premier

A woman shouldn’t have to contribute to household expenses. It is a man’s responsibility to cover all costs and look after her,” Touch declared.

His statement has since ignited a heated online debate, with South Africans weighing in on whether his perspective is realistic in today’s economic climate.

Mixed Reactions to Touch’s Opinion

Tbo Touch’s take divided opinions, with some agreeing that a man should be the sole provider, while others argued that times have changed.

Some users backed his view, believing that men should take charge financially in relationships. However, others questioned whether such an approach was sustainable, given the rising cost of living.

Other social media users took it a step further, asking what’s the point of women working if they are not contributing financially.

Here are some of the reactions;

@Ndaba_2025;

Times has changed generations are not the same anymore, both Man and Woman must contribute in house hold, that the only way to gang up on this life thing.!!

@Sanelest;

This is Korobela speaking, it means we all have to marry virgins make them house wifes and than give them 100% with a possibility of Polygamy 🤣🤣

@Oracle5152;

Then why should women be employed if they won’t contribute anything?

@Sbuddahmlangeni;

So what should women do with their Salaries?

@Mzabalazow:

That’s true! 🙌 including buying cars, paying school fees, insurance etc.

@stellz_paRi

I understand what Tbo Touch is saying
But the thing is, the 50/50 thing came with women. Who are we to say no, cos these days no one listens to us.?

@Mtika;

If he wasn’t financially well off he wouldn’t be saying such things. On principle he’s right. The problem is things don’t always go as we plan. Not every man who can’t solely provide for his family is doing it deliberately. Life happens and things don’t work out sometimes. Truly.

The Never-Ending Gender Roles Debate

Tbo Touch’s remarks are the latest in a long-running conversation about traditional versus modern gender roles. While some still uphold the belief that men should be sole providers, an increasing number of people believe in equal financial responsibility between partners.
