Early Life

Thapelo Mokoena is a South African actor, television producer and presenter. He was born on October 21, 1982, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. His father is Mike Mokoena, the owner of South Africa’s premier soccer league team Free State Stars. Thapelo shares his journey with his brother Fana Mokoena.

Education

Mokoena attended Ladysmith High School before moving to Johannesburg. He initially pursued a degree in accounting after completing his secondary education but later followed his passion and transitioned to the study of filmmaking.

Career as an Actor

Thapelo embarked on his professional journey through a television commercial, marking the inception of his career. He affiliated himself with a Johannesburg-based agency, securing his first prominent role in a commercial within a mere two months. Swiftly after completing his studies in filmmaking, he landed a role in a South African soap opera. He was cast in the SABC1 soap opera Generations as the bodyguard of Karabo Moraka (played by Connie Ferguson). Mokoena landed the role of Vusi in Mzansi in 2006. He continued from where Fezile Mpela stopped for season 2 of the SABC1 drama series. In the same year, 2006, he appeared in season one of Fear Factor South Africa as the presenter. Lungile Radu replaced him in season 2 of the show aired on e.tv. He left the show for a British TV series he was filming. In season 3 of the SABC1 drama series Mtunzini.com, he took over as the lead character Bongani Thwala replacing Pepi Khambule. He landed the role as the host of season 2 of Rize Mzansi, an SABC1 reality competition. He appeared among the celebrities who entered the SABC3 reality competition 2013 Strictly Come Dancing. Mokoena became the host of the e.tv reality makeover series Sinawe72 in 2014.

Personal Life

Thapelo Mokoena is married to Lesego-Tshepang Mokoena since November 2012 and they have two sons together named Reko and Lefika Meraki Mokoena.
