The family of Ian von Memerty has confirmed the death of the celebrated South African performer at the age of 61.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, relatives said he passed away in the early hours of Monday, 23 February 2026, in Johannesburg. They described the loss as deeply painful and asked for privacy as they come to terms with his passing.
“We are sad to announce that our beloved Ian von Memerty passed away at the age of 61 in Johannesburg in the early hours of 23 February 2026. As a family we have done everything we can to love & respect him on his journey. We ask for privacy & respect as we deal with our own pain, having lost someone we’ve loved very much,” reads the statement.
