Early Life and Education

Thembinkosi Brian Mthembu, a rising South African television industry star, was born on July 31, 1994, in KwaNdengezi, Durban. His early life was marked by tragedy as he lost both his parents at a tender age. To make ends meet, he resorted to working as an illegal diamond miner, a perilous occupation that led to a traumatic encounter with law enforcement, leaving him with lasting scars.

Seeking an escape from this challenging life, Mthembu turned to drama as a means to fulfil his dream of becoming a fighter. He completed his education at Nilgiri Secondary School and went on to earn a diploma in drama and production studios from Durban University of Technology in 2017. His talent was duly recognized, and he received a prestigious cameo award from the esteemed Dawn Thandeka King during his time at DUT.

Following the completion of his diploma, Mthembu ventured to Johannesburg, the City of Gold, to pursue his acting aspirations. He initially worked as a dancer at Shoprite Checkers and Cell C before securing his breakthrough television role. His television debut came in 2017 when he portrayed Junior in the Mzansi Magic drama series “The Republic.”

Mthembu’s career continued to ascend as he landed roles in renowned series such as “The River,” “The Gamechangers,” “Kalushi: The Story of Solomon Mahlangu,” and the captivating short film “Ngeculo.” In 2019, he assumed the role of Shift Manager in the MTV Base drama series, “MTV Shuga Down South 2.”

In 2020, his career reached new heights with the role of Malusi in “Ngeculo,” a TV short film. During the same year, he received nominations in multiple categories at the Kwa-Zulu Natal Entertainment Awards, recognizing his exceptional contributions to South African television.

Currently, Mthembu graces our screens as King Dingiswayo in the viral drama “Shaka iLembe” and as Bonga Tembe in the TV short series “Adulting.”

Residing in Johannesburg, Mthembu is a devoted father to a beautiful daughter born in 2019. He maintains a low profile when it comes to his romantic life, keeping his relationships out of the public eye. Tragically, he lost his sister, Nontuthuko Ntuthu, in 2015.

Notably, Mthembu is distinguished by a charming dimple on his left cheek, earning him the affectionate nickname “Mr Dimples.” Beyond acting, he is an avid soccer enthusiast and a passionate supporter of Manchester United. He also draws inspiration from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, whom he regards as his role model.
