AN ANC leader was shot dead and a  17-year-old boy was wounded in what could been a hit, but might also have been a robbery. Thugs allegedly gained access through a window to the house of Thabo Moroa (38) in Maboloka Village, near Brits in the North West.

Moroa was an ANC leader in Maboloka and an employee of the Bojanala Platinum Municipality. His death has left many shocked and confused. Questions were asked about the motive for the killing as people don’t know whether it was a hit or an armed robbery gone wrong.

ANC spokesman in the North West, Diale Kgantsi, said they are aware of the incident. “At the moment we need to give police space to do their work. We must also allow the family space without making up reasons for the motive.

“Speculation will not help us until we know from the police,” said Kgantsi. While details are sketchy, North West cops confirmed that Letlhabile police are investigating a case of housebreaking with intent to commit murder and attempted murder.

A statement from Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone of SAPS in the North West said: “Two unknown suspects gained entrance through the window into the house in which the victims were sleeping at Doornkop Section, Maboloka Village in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“The suspects allegedly shot the first victim, who died on the scene, while his friend was taken to hospital with serious injuries. “The motive for the incident is unknown and investigation is underway.”
