SANParks has reported that a tourist was killed by an elephant herd at Kruger National Park after wandering from her lodgings.
A tragic incident occurred at Kruger National Park over the weekend when a 68-year-old female tourist was fatally attacked by a group of elephants near Sirheni Bush Camp, according to South African National Parks (SANParks) officials.

Park representatives confirmed the woman had separated from her lodging area on Saturday afternoon when the deadly confrontation took place.
“The visitor unfortunately lost her life after an unexpected encounter with wild elephants in proximity to the camp,” stated SANParks spokesperson JP Louw.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“To maintain proper procedures and show consideration for the grieving family, we will refrain from additional comments until the investigation concludes,” Louw added.
Local law enforcement reported the case was filed at Saselamani police station, located near the park’s Punda Maria entrance in Collins Chabane municipality. Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba shared preliminary information:
“We can confirm an elderly tourist staying at a recognized lodge within the park was fatally wounded in an elephant attack. The exact details remain under scrutiny.”
