In addition to his Emmy nomination, Trevor Noah also made history by becoming the first comedian to win the prestigious Erasmus Prize in nearly 60 years. The only other comic to win the prize was Charlie Chaplin in 1965. Noah was also the first South African to win the prize.

Erasmus Prize Awarded for Contribution to “In Praise of Folly”

The Erasmus Prize Foundation awarded Noah the prize for his contribution to the theme “In Praise of Folly”, named after Erasmus’s famous book filled with humor, social criticism, and political satire. The jury praised Noah’s sharp-minded, mocking yet inclusive political comedy as upholding the “Erasmian Spirit”.
