THE township came to a standstill at the funeral of Waile and Mozeze, but not because of the traffic.
The burial of best friends and taxi drivers Oagile “Waile” Mathibe (29) and Tebogo “Mozeze” Lodi (30) in Ga-Rankuwa, Tshwane was more like a party than a funeral. The two died when their Toyota Conquest crashed into another car last Sunday night. The accident occurred near Kgabalatsane Cemetery, the same graveyard where they were buried on Saturday.
Just as their joint service started, chaos erupted. Girls in miniskirts and short dresses twerked and loud music boomed across the graveyard. The young driver of a Toyota Quantum carrying misbehaving teens almost fell from the vehicle when his hands slipped from the steering-wheel.
Even as the two coffins were lowered, the party continued. Relatives agreed the funeral was more of a bash than a funeral. One of the mourners said she was dancing to bid farewell to her friends.
“This is exactly the party they would have wanted.”
After the burial, the party continued as taxi drivers pumped loud music from their vehicles and young women danced on the road.
