Two Arrested After Assaulting a Female Police Officer in Kimberley CBD
Two men were arrested in the Kimberley central business district after assaulting a female police officer who was on crime prevention duty.
The incident, which was caught on camera and widely circulated online, has sparked outrage across South Africa.

Shocking Video Sparks Public Outrage
The disturbing footage shared by crime reporter, Yusuf Abramjee, shows one of the suspects attacking the constable during her duties on Monday. The man is seen aggressively confronting the officer and pulling off her weave as bystanders watch in shock.
Members of the public can be seen attempting to help before another police vehicle arrives to assist the officer under attack.
Two Suspects Arrested at the Scene
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien confirmed that two men were swiftly arrested by other officers who were part of the same crime prevention team.
“The suspects face multiple charges, including assaulting a police official, resisting arrest, defeating the ends of justice, and malicious damage to property,” Gamieldien said.
She added that the female officer sustained minor injuries and has since received medical treatment and counselling through the SAPS Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) unit.
SAPS Condemns Attack on Its Members
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, condemned the assault in the strongest terms.
“No one is above the law. Those who attack our officers will face the full might of the law,” Otola stated. “An attack on police officials is a direct attack on the state.”
She reaffirmed the SAPS’s commitment to ensuring the safety and dignity of its members, calling on the public to respect law enforcement officers carrying out their duties.
