Two people have been arrested after two headless bodies, which the police suspect to be a missing mother and child, were discovered in Limpopo.

Authorities in Limpopo have made a chilling discovery with the recovery of headless remains believed to be those of a missing woman and her two-year-old daughter, sparking a murder investigation that has shocked the Vhembe district community.

Local law enforcement confirmed the grim find occurred last Friday in Thohoyandou, nearly three months after the victims were first reported missing on May 19. Police spokesperson Captain Makhado Sinthumule revealed the disturbing nature of the case:

“The forensic examination revealed both victims had been decapitated, with one suspect allegedly being the deceased woman’s romantic partner.”

Investigators have taken two men into custody – identified as Tshilidzi Phalandwa (43) and Balangani Sedzani Tshivhombedze (32). The pair made their initial court appearance at Vuwani Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where the case was postponed to allow for further forensic analysis and evidence collection.

“The complexity of this case requires meticulous investigation,” explained state prosecutor Lerato Nkuna. “We’re working diligently to ensure justice is served for these horrific crimes.”

Court Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation

The accused remain in custody pending their next scheduled court appearance on August 12. Police have not disclosed potential motives but confirm forensic teams continue processing the crime scene and examining evidence.

Community members have expressed outrage over the brutal killings, with local women’s groups planning vigils to honour the victims. Social workers have been deployed to assist traumatised family members as investigators piece together the victims’ final movements.
