Two Guards Shot in N2 Cash-in-Transit Heist Bombing, KZN Police Launch Manhunt

A cash-in-transit truck was bombed and robbed today by eight armed suspects on the N2 south of Durban.

The attack, which unfolded on Wednesday morning, left two security guards wounded after gunmen ambushed their cash delivery vehicle.

The Police in KwaZulu-Natal have launched a large-scale manhunt for the eight suspects.

Guards Shot as Truck Is Intercepted

According to SABC News, the guards were transporting cash when they were confronted by heavily armed suspects travelling in two vehicles. The assailants allegedly opened fire on the truck, forcing it to a halt.

Provincial police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said two security officers were shot during the ambush.

It’s alleged that eight suspects, who were travelling in two vehicles, opened fire on the cash delivery truck and brought it to a stop. Two security guards were shot and injured in the process,” Netshiunda said.

One of the injured guards remains in hospital in critical condition.

Explosives Used in Robbery

Preliminary reports indicate that the suspects used explosives to breach the cash vehicle. Despite the blast, the truck’s safe was not destroyed.

The gang reportedly fled the scene with several bags of money, though the exact amount stolen has not yet been disclosed.

Police Appeal for Information

Authorities are urging members of the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
