The first breakthrough came Tuesday evening when an 18-year-old male sought medical treatment at a Lentegeur healthcare facility for a gunshot wound. Investigators believe he sustained the injury during the altercation with the MPs when one occupant of the vehicle discharged a firearm in self-defence. The suspect remains under police guard while receiving medical attention.

In a follow-up operation during Wednesday’s early hours, detectives arrested a second suspect identified as a 16-year-old male in the Browns Farm area. Police intelligence suggests a third individual may have been involved in the attempted criminal act, and the investigation remains active with further arrests anticipated. Both detained individuals now face serious charges, including attempted murder and attempted vehicle hijacking.

Identities and Aftermath

DA parliamentary chief whip George Michalakis identified the targeted officials as Ian Cameron, Lisa Schickerling, and Nicholas Gotsell. While Gotsell required hospitalisation for his injuries, medical professionals confirmed his condition was not critical. Cameron sustained minor injuries but demonstrated remarkable presence of mind during the attack, taking decisive defensive action that potentially prevented more severe outcomes.
