From a Pub in Fourways to a Deadly Altercation in Sandton

On 13 April 2019, Mokgotlo and Rihlampfu traveled from Pretoria to a pub in Fourways in search of clients. At around 3:00 AM, the victim accepted their services and took them to his Sandton home. After purchasing food, the deceased engaged in consensual lula lula with Mokgotlo while Rihlampfu waited in another room. However, the situation turned violent during the encounter.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane revealed that evidence presented in court showed Mokgotlo strangled the victim with a cellphone charging cable until he died.

The pair then fled the scene, taking the victim’s house keys and other belongings.

Father’s Concern Leads to Gruesome Find

The victim’s body was discovered after his father repeatedly failed to reach him and contacted a family friend to check on him.

The friend gained entry to the Sandton residence and found the victim’s lifeless body on the floor. Police were immediately alerted.

Video footage from the complex showed the victim entering his home with two women, later identified as Mokgotlo and Rihlampfu. The duo was seen leaving the complex with the victim’s house keys.

A cellphone charging cable was found around the victim’s neck, and bank slips were discovered on the bed. Fingerprints lifted from the scene matched those of the accused, further linking them to the crime.

Prosecution Highlights Lack of Remorse, Court Agrees

Senior State Advocate Evelyn Moseki argued that the accused acted in common purpose, taking advantage of the victim’s kindness.

The deceased met a brutal end,” Moseki said, emphasizing the pair’s shocking lack of remorse.

The court agreed, noting that the duo callously abandoned the victim and failed to report the incident to authorities.

The NPA welcomed the sentence, stating that it reflects the severity of the crime and upholds justice for the victim and his family.

Mokgotlo and Rihlampfu were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, 15 years for robbery, and six months for theft.
