Two toddlers have died in a house fire in Limpopo after their mother left the house for some minutes to go to a Spaza shop.

Authorities in Limpopo are conducting an in-depth investigation following a tragic house fire that resulted in the deaths. The incident occurred over the weekend in Vianeen village, located in the Waterberg district, while the children’s mother was not at home.

Police in Villa Nora received an urgent call on Sunday evening reporting a residential fire. Officers arrived at the scene around 8:30 PM to find residents battling the raging flames in an attempt to save the occupants and contain the damage.

Details of the Incident

Preliminary investigations revealed that the mother had left her six children, aged between two and twelve, in their home to visit a nearby spaza shop. According to reports, she intended to collect social grant money but had left a candle burning before her departure.

Upon her return, she was horrified: her six-room house was consumed by flames. Community members were already attempting to extinguish the fire as the structure burned.

Among the six children, four managed to escape the blaze unharmed. However, the family’s youngest members, aged two and four, could not make it out in time. They were tragically found burned beyond recognition.Police spokesperson Col.
