Global music sensation Tyla achieved two major career milestones at this year’s Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, both hosting the spectacular event and taking home the coveted Favorite Global Music Star award for Africa.

The 23-year-old singer and fashion trendsetter marked her debut as host of a major international awards show with electrifying energy at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar. Tyla kicked off the slime-filled extravaganza with a vibrant summer dance showcase featuring season’s hottest tracks, accompanied by DJ Benny Blanco and a troupe of dynamic dancers – including a surprise cameo from the iconic Smurfette.

In a heartwarming full-circle moment, the Johannesburg-born artist revealed she had auditioned for Nickelodeon as a child.

“It’s surreal how life works out,” Tyla shared before the show. “I just hope I only get a light splash of slime!”

Her wish proved optimistic as she, along with co-presenters Jack Griffo and KATSEYE, ended the night thoroughly drenched in Nickelodeon’s signature green goo.

The multi-award-winning artist triumphed over nominees from six other global regions to claim the Favourite Global Music Star (Africa) honour. Holding her iconic orange blimp trophy, an emotional Tyla addressed the audience:

“This moment is everything – to stand here representing Africa and be celebrated by all you incredible kids… thank you for rocking with me! Africa to the world!”

This latest achievement joins Tyla’s impressive collection of accolades, including a Grammy, American Music Award, and over 30 international honours. The ceremony also saw Sabrina Carpenter dominate with three wins including Favorite Song and Favorite Album.
