Ukhozi FM presenter and founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards, Zanele Mbokazi, is recovering in hospital after a successful medical operation.
The Medical Emergency
She was admitted last Monday, April 29 2024, after experiencing sharp chest pains and problems with breathing while she was at work at Ukhozi FM.
A close source at Ukhozi FM told Zimoja that Mbokazi experienced a health scare at the SABC Durban offices:
“Paramedics were called to assist her after she struggled to breathe and complained of chest pains. Initially, we thought it was a heart attack, but after doctors checked, it turned out to be something around her stomach.”
The incident stirred memories of the late Ukhozi FM presenter, Bheka ‘Bheekay’ Mchunu, who also had a health scare during a show in March. The radio presenter tragically passed away on March 12.

Mbokazi confirmed that she went for surgery on May 3. She shared on her Facebook:
“Ngiyabonga kubo bonke abafundisi, artists and friends abebethumela imikhuleko and flowers. Ngibonga nasemndenini wase #Eshilo ngemikhuleko yenu and messages of support on this page. Swaziland, boskoni thank you for the love. BoDonda nakaHarris. The theatre procedure went well. Now, I am managing pain.”
Mbokazi’s public relations manager, Nonjabulo Mdluli, confirmed that she underwent a minor operation:
“The operation went very well, and she is still in hospital.”
Mdluli declined to reveal the kind of operation Mbokazi went through:
“Unfortunately, we can’t divulge, but it was nothing major.”
