So many of Mzansi artists were really looking forward to making it on the yearly-famed Ukhozi FM Song Of The Year spot as part of the long-standing tradition that had been running for years now – but not on Mr Owen Ndlovu’s watch.

He has vowed never to see the radio station hosting its year-end Top 10 songs voted by listeners.

Just like a year ago, Owen of Michael Owen Productions has sought an interdict to stop the station from announcing the Song Of The Year.

This because he believed the station stole his ideas of such an event and only says he will back off only if the station nominated its Top 10 according to the top song charts that they use weekly and not through his voting concept.

Ukhozi FM will be receiving Owen’s court papers this week. This time around, he warned to bring the heat on the station and “teach them a tough lesson”.

“Ukhozi is exploiting its listeners. It has a Top 20 played every Saturday and nobody votes for it.

For the past years, it has been using this system on its year-end Top 10 until my concept in 2016.

The station can’t continue with my concept without me. It wants to rob listeners of their money.

I warn listeners to not vote and waste their money because the Top 10 will not be played. I also warn artists to not campaign,” Owen said.

Owen Ndlovu’s fight with the SABC radio station stretches way back since his Summer Song of the Year contract which expired and was not renewed in 2018.

The bitter Owen vowed ever since to make SABC pay.

But SABC spokesperson, Mmoni Seapolelo says Owen has no right to sue since their contract expired a while ago.

“The rights and title they had in the Summer Song were sold and bought, which left them without any rights to sue,” she said.

SABC has continued to urge its listeners to vote in numbers despite uncertainty over the dispute.
