Uzalo Actor Siyabonga Shibe Robbed After Drink-Spiking Incident in Bryanston
A night out in Bryanston took a troubling turn for Siyabonga Shibe after he and a friend were drugged and robbed at a local restaurant.
The actor, known for his roles in Uzalo, Scandal! and Rockville, reportedly lost two mobile phones and a laptop valued at about R37,000.

Encounter With Suspected Group
According to Shibe, the incident began when three women, believed to be fans, approached his table requesting photographs.
The women later joined him and his companion, and the group spent time socialising over drinks. At some point, Shibe briefly stepped away, leaving his drink and a bag containing his valuables with the group.
Sudden Illness Raises Alarm
Not long after returning, both men began feeling unusually drowsy. They left the restaurant and went to their vehicle, where they reportedly fell asleep.
When they later regained consciousness, their belongings — including phones and a laptop — were gone.
Shibe suspects that their drinks may have been tampered with and believes the incident could be linked to a coordinated group targeting unsuspecting patrons.
Police Investigation Underway
The South African Police Service confirmed that a theft case was opened on April 20.
Police spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko said investigations are ongoing, although no arrests have been made so far.
Growing Concern Over Drink-Spiking
Authorities have previously warned about an increase in drink-spiking incidents, where victims are targeted in social settings such as restaurants and bars.
These schemes often involve suspects gaining trust before drugging victims and stealing valuables.
Call for Vigilance
Following the incident, Shibe urged members of the public to remain cautious when out in social environments.
He acknowledged that leaving personal belongings unattended may have contributed to the situation and stressed the importance of staying alert.
The actor also reported the matter to ensure the stolen devices cannot be misused, while investigations continue.
