Uzalo MaMlambo Born From A Family Of Freedom Fighters

MaMlambo, an actress who is making so much airwaves through her role on SABC 1’s telenovella Uzalo comes from a well pedigreed and prominent family.

Unknown to may of her fans, her parents are actually former freedom fighters who were involved in the fight against the apartheid regime.

Real name, Gugu Gumede, her mother is celebrated freedom fighter Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi.

Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi is also former South African parliamentarian who served as the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology in the cabinet of Jacob Zuma.

Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi is also the President of the National Freedom Party (NFP) and previously served as the chairperson of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).

MaMlambo’s fathers is the late Inkosi Simon Hulumeni Gumede who was a member of the Inkatha Freedom Party and served as a member of the KwaZulu-Natal legislature.

He died in 2007 after being nvolved in a car accident, when Gugu was around 15 years old.

Commenting on her father’s accident and death in an interview with the Sowetan, Gugu said,

“It was hard when my dad died, but I didn’t really know him. He and my mom had a decent relationship.

“I grew up in a single-parent household. We are a loving and overly sensitive type.

“I’m my mother’s daughter. I don’t accept a lot of nonsense and I’m very stubborn,” says Gumede.

Born on September 14, 1992, in KwaZulu Natal, Gugu is now 28-years-old, younger than most people think of her character.

Due to her impressive physical transformation which is paired with her performance, the actress has managed to make fans of the SABC1 soapie to believe that she has way passed her current age.
