Prominent businessman Vusimuzi Matlala was recently arrested over allegations of an attempted assassination of his ex-girlfriend Tebogo Thoejane in 2023.

Vusimuzi Matlala (known colloquially as “Cat”) found himself before magistrates at the Alexandra Court this Thursday. The hearing addressed grave accusations involving his former romantic partner, renowned media personality Tebogo Thobejane.

Law enforcement officials took Matlala into custody Wednesday evening during a Midrand operation. Authorities have leveled two severe charges against him:

Court documents reveal the alleged violent encounter occurred last year along the busy N1 highway near Sandton’s commercial district. According to police reports, unidentified assailants opened fire on a vehicle transporting Thobejane and an acquaintance.

Investigators have confirmed the apprehension of two other individuals believed to be connected to the case. While their identities remain protected, sources indicate they may have played operational roles in the purported scheme.

Legal Proceedings Underway

Matlala’s defense team has formally notified the judicial system of their client’s request for pretrial release. The bail hearing, scheduled for presentation before magistrates early next week, represents the next critical phase in this unfolding legal drama.

Tebogo Thobejane has been in and out of court with her former best friend, Inno Morolong, over another attempted murder case. Thobejane ended up relocating to Dubai, where she has lived for the best part of the past two years.

She claimed that her life was in danger in South Africa, and with all the attempted hits on her life, she made the decision to relocate. Inno Morolong ended up getting a house arrest sentence in the case with Thobejane.
