Walter Sisulu University Official Shot Dead Near Mthatha Campus

An official from Walter Sisulu University (WSU) was shot dead near the Nkululekweni entrance gate, adjacent to the N2 highway in Mthatha, on Thursday.

The Eastern Cape South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that a murder investigation is now underway following the discovery of the victim’s body inside a stationary vehicle.

Victim Found with Multiple Gunshot Wounds

Upon responding to the scene, police found the victim lifeless in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, which had come to a halt near the campus entrance. Forensic teams have confirmed that the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds, indicating a targeted and violent attack.

At this stage, the identity of the deceased has not been made public. SAPS stated that this is standard protocol to allow for formal notification of the victim’s next-of-kin.

Crime Scene Under Investigation

The area surrounding the crime scene has been cordoned off as forensic experts and detectives continue their meticulous search for clues.

According to IOL, authorities are examining physical evidence and potential CCTV footage to help determine the motive and identify those responsible.

Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Thandiswa Kupiso confirmed that SAPS has deployed all available resources in pursuit of the perpetrators.

We urge the public to refrain from speculation to preserve the integrity of the investigation,” said Kupiso.

The SAPS has called on anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in bringing the perpetrator(s) to justice.
