A viral video of a teacher and pupil engaged in a fist fight has sparked outrage online after it was circulated.

Gauteng’s Education MEC, Matome Chiloane, expresses fury over a widely circulated video capturing a brawl between a student and a teacher.Normal learning activities were disrupted as a teacher engaged in physical confrontation with a pupil. The incident reportedly occurred at Glenvista High School in Johannesburg on Thursday, but it only gained viral attention the following morning.

Violent Encounter Unfolds Between Teacher And Pupil

In the brief footage, the teacher is observed exchanging blows with the student, while also hurling a chair. Another student is seen flinging a desk amidst the chaos within the classroom.

Gauteng’s Education MEC, Matome Chiloane, expressed his dismay at the incident, stating,

“The educator and a Grade 9 student from Glenvista High School in Johannesburg were captured engaging in physical altercation within the classroom. According to available information, the altercation transpired on Thursday. The recorded video depicts a distressing scene of violence, with both the educator and student causing damage to school property.”

Department Of Education Investigates The Fist Fight

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has promptly initiated an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the altercation.

“We regard this matter with the utmost seriousness. The safety and well-being of all individuals within school premises remain our paramount concern. However, such acts of indiscipline will not be condoned. Schools are sanctuaries for intellectual and personal growth, not arenas for conflict. Consequently, we are diligently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident, and we will take decisive action based on our findings,” stated MEC Chiloane.

As a result of the altercation, classes were suspended on Friday to facilitate a meeting between the parents, teacher, student, and school administration.
