Western Cape Man Hired Three Hitmen to Kill Disabled Daughter for R600k Insurance
A Western Cape man who orchestrated the brutal murder of his disabled stepdaughter in a calculated insurance scam is expected to be sentenced in the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday morning.
Mboneleli Msila, along with hired hitmen Mbulelo Jack, Monde Tshemese, and Lungisile Lucas, were found guilty of premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Victim Shot 15 Times While Asleep
According to IOL, the victim, 23-year-old Nomdundu Mafani from Kwanokuthula, was gunned down in her sleep in April 2022. She was shot 15 times in a cold-blooded attack that shocked the community.
Mafani, who was disabled, had been adopted by Msila when she was just 11 years old. Her life came to a tragic end after her stepfather plotted to profit from her death.

Insurance Policies Worth R600 000 Behind Plot
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Msila and his wife had taken out multiple life insurance policies on Mafani, with a combined value of R600 000.
NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila confirmed that the State had proven Msila’s role in planning the murder.
“The State proved Msila planned the murder over some time and hired Jack, Tshemese, and Lucas to carry out the hit,” said Ntabazalila.
Life Sentences Likely as State Argues There Are No Mitigating Factors
Senior State Advocate John Reyneveld emphasized that the murder was driven by financial greed and that no substantial or compelling circumstances exist to justify a lesser sentence.
“The killing was motivated by financial greed. There are no substantial and compelling circumstances to justify a deviation from the prescribed minimum sentence of life imprisonment.”
The sentencing is expected to be handed down today.
