A 31-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her ex-husband in a vicious axe attack witnessed by multiple bystanders.
Family Reveals History Of Abuse After Woman Is Murdered By Ex-husband
Family members revealed Maseko had endured prolonged abuse from Kamanga, her children’s father.
“After leaving their shared home due to violence, he continued stalking and assaulting her at her new residence,” stated cousin Nontobeko Nkosi. “Despite obtaining a protection order, authorities allegedly failed to enforce it.”
The fatal confrontation reportedly followed a weekend dispute regarding child support payments.

“Kamanga demanded control of the children’s SASSA grant card, but Ntombi refused, needing funds for winter clothing,” Nkosi explained. “This appears to have triggered the deadly attack.”
Community Outrage Over Police Inaction
Friends and neighbours expressed anger at what they describe as systemic failures. Bus companion Nkosinathi Mahlalela shared:
“We knew about the abuse. The protection order meant nothing when police didn’t act on violations. He’d even ride our bus to monitor her movements.”

Official Response and Warning
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lt-Col Jabu Ndubane acknowledged concerns:
“We urge victims to report all protection order violations immediately, including stalking. Often only physical abuse gets reported, but stalking is equally criminal.”
Kamanga remains in custody with bail hearings scheduled for May 20. The case has reignited conversations about domestic violence protections and community responsibility in South Africa.
The case is an addition to many cases of domestic violence around South Africa that end with partners murdered.
