In a disturbing case of familial betrayal, the Polokwane High Court has imposed a life term on 28-year-old Mologadi Magdeline Mehlape for masterminding the execution-style murder of her father, Dr. Malekutu Johannes Mehlape. The prominent Limpopo Department of Education administrator was ambushed in his Mankweng residence during December 2023’s festive season.

On the night of December 28, Mehlape facilitated the attack by disabling her father’s home security. The assailants stormed the educator’s bedroom, firing multiple rounds before stealing personal effects including mobile devices.

J udge Phatudi Hands Down Sentence and Pending Co-Accused Trials
Presiding Judge Phatudi handed down concurrent sentences – life for premeditated murder plus 15 years for aggravated robbery. While the defendant cited maternal responsibilities and family tensions in her mitigation plea, prosecutors characterized the crime as “exceptionally callous,” rejecting her remorse as disingenuous.
