Rey Mysterio Snr, a legendary figure in Wrestling dies at the age of 66. The heartbreaking news was confirmed on Friday, December 20, by his son, Miguel Aarón López Hernández, popularly known as El Hijo de Rey Misterio.
Sharing the announcement on Facebook, he wrote,
“Friends and family, I regret to inform you that my Father, Miguel Ángel López Días, Rey Misterio Sr., passed away this morning… I will keep you informed. Thank you.”
While the cause of death has not been disclosed, the outpouring of condolences reflects Mysterio Snr’s profound impact on the wrestling world.

Following the announcement, Mexican wrestling company Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide paid tribute to the iconic wrestler. In a heartfelt statement, they wrote,
“We mourn the sensitive passing of Miguel Ángel López Días, known as Rey Misterio Sr. We send our deepest condolences to your loved ones and lift our prayers to heaven for your eternal rest.”
Rey Mysterio Snr. was not only revered for his in-ring accomplishments but also for his contributions to the wrestling community.

His nephew, WWE superstar Rey Mysterio, and grandnephew Dominik Misterio shared tributes on social media. Dominik posted a touching Instagram tribute with a simple black heart emoji alongside photos of his late great-uncle.
A Wrestling Career That Spanned Decades
Born Miguel Ángel López Días, Rey Misterio Sr. began his journey in combat sports as a boxer before transitioning to professional wrestling in 1976. Over the years, he performed in numerous prominent promotions, including Pro Wrestling Revolution, Tijuana Wrestling, the World Wrestling Association (WWA), and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.
One of his career highlights came in 1990 when he represented Mexico at World Championship Wrestling’s (WCW) Starrcade pay-per-view event. Competing in the “Pat O’Connor Memorial International Cup” alongside fellow wrestling legend Konnan, Mysterio Snr solidified his place in wrestling history.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mysterio Snr captured several championships, including the Revolution Tag Team Championship, which he held with his son, the IWC World Middleweight Championship, and the WWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Championship.
