DJ Tira Under Fire as Babes Wodumo Accuses Him of Replacing Mampintsha
Tensions flared on Babes Wodumo’s reality show Wena Wodumo after the Gqom star accused DJ Tira of trying to bring back her late husband, Mampintsha, through his new artist.
The Durban music producer was caught off guard as Babes confronted him over a performer signed to his Afrotainment label — one she claims looks and sounds too much like Mampintsha.

“He Is Mampintsha 2.0” – Babes Speaks Her Mind
During the emotional exchange, Babes Wodumo expressed her discomfort with Tira’s new signee, known as Captain.
“He’s not only inspired by Mampintsha, he is Mampintsha 2.0. You can’t replace someone like that,” she said.
Tira, who shared a long professional history and friendship with the late Big Nuz member, appeared calm in his response.
“Wherever Mandla is, I know that he is happy about this,” he told her.
Social Media Backs Babes Wodumo
The confrontation quickly became a trending topic online. Many fans sided with Babes, calling DJ Tira’s actions “insensitive” and accusing him of attempting to recreate the chemistry that once defined the Babes–Mampintsha partnership.
On TikTok, clips comparing Captain’s deep voice and Gqom delivery to Mampintsha’s have gone viral, fuelling claims that Dj Tira is “recycling” the late artist’s sound instead of promoting originality.
Not the First Time Babes Has Confronted DJ Tira Over Mampintsha’s Legacy
This is not the first time Babes Wodumo has publicly clashed with DJ Tira over matters relating to her late husband, Mampintsha. In June, the Gqom star criticised both DJ Tira and the Department of Arts and Culture for allegedly sidelining her in the organisation of a tribute concert held in Mampintsha’s honour.
Taking to Instagram, Babes Wodumo expressed deep frustration over being excluded from the planning process, despite her earlier attempts to arrange a similar event herself.
In an emotional post, she accused the organisers of exploiting her husband’s legacy without her involvement or consent.
“Nothing breaks my heart and soul [more] than this kwi industry. A tribute to Mampintsha but no-one spoke to me about it. Everyone just wants to use his name for their pockets,” she wrote.
