Late South African musician Zahara’s Sister plans to host a concert to help save the musician’s house that was auctioned last year in a dramatic turn of events.

Months after the passing of the renowned musician Zahara, born Bulelwa Mtukutana, the saga surrounding her legacy continues to captivate attention.

Rescuing Zahara’s House

Zahara’s siblings, Bandezwa Mkutukana-Febana and Lumka Mkutukana, have announced an upcoming music spectacle aimed at preserving Zahara’s former residence in Little Falls, Roodepoort. The auction of the house last year prompted this endeavour, stirring emotions and prompting action.

With finances tight, the family clarifies that remuneration for performing artists will be minimal, if any. The esteemed lineup includes Vusi Nova, Nathi Mankayi, Khanyisa Sabuka, Butho Vuthela, and Ivory Sikepe, promising a night of soulful melodies.

A Divided Front

However, controversy shrouds the event. Allegations surface regarding Bandezwa’s unilateral decision-making, purportedly without consulting other family members. Accusations of exploiting Zahara’s name for personal gain cast a shadow over the noble cause.

Zahara’s former band members express dismay over their exclusion from the planning process. Their absence raises questions about the authenticity of the event’s intentions, stirring discontent among those who shared a musical journey with the late icon.

Questioning Motives

Concerns deepen as revelations emerge about Bandezwa’s strained relationship with Zahara. Assertions that she disregarded Zahara’s wishes during her final days paint a troubling picture. The absence of key figures, including Zahara’s manager and cousin, Oyama Dyosiba, underscores the rift within the family.

Despite Bandezwa’s reassurances about preserving Zahara’s memory, doubts linger. The conflicting narratives surrounding the concert raise skepticism, prompting calls for transparency and accountability.
