Zamani Mbatha Unemployed After Rhythm City Got Cancelled

Zamani Mbatha made headlines a few months ago announcing that he was joining Rhythm City little did he know he was joining a sinking boat.

It is reported that Zamani Mbatha was supposed to join Clive Morris’s upcoming 2021 Telenovela; The Estate but rejected the offer and didn’t sign the contract because of his role on Rhythm City.

‌Entertainment Commentator; Phil Mphela updated his followers a few weeks before ETV announced its cancellation on Rhythm City that Mbatha was joining ETV’s Rhythm City instead.

It is unclear why Mbatha didn’t want to join the upcoming novella which will be replacing the fallen SABC 3 soapie; Isidingo.

Veteran actors that have joined the show include The River’s Thato Mokoena, Isibaya’s Clementine Mosimang, and Sdumo Motshali who plays Sibusiso Ndlovu on Isibaya.

Like Generations Gaddafi, Mbatha will soon be jobless as he put all his eggs in one basket. ETV announced two weeks ago that they’re canning the multi-award-winning show after 13 years of entertaining millions of viewers. The show will air its last episode on 16 July 2021.
An emotional Mbatha who had just scored a gig on the show earlier this month stated:

“I am sad and heartbroken about it. However, I will not carry it with me the whole way up until the end. So, I have decided that I am going to make the most of the last months I have on the show, performing even 10 times better than now.”

Managing Director at ETV; Marlon Davids said in a statement:

“ETV continues to look forward to fulfilling its mandate of producing exceptional and relevant local content, and the production has successfully achieved its part of the obligation throughout the past 13 years. Rhythm City has secured its place in ETV’s history books, and a legacy mark has been made. We want to extend our gratitude to the entire production staff, crew, and cast for their incomparable craft.”

Although the channel has remained mum on what its next move will be, it has been confirmed that Rhythm City will be replaced by another local daily drama in 2021.

It is unclear whether Zamani Mbatha will be asking for a job back on the developing new novella; The Estates, which is produced by Clive Morris Productions. Clive Morris Productions is also producing; ISONO which currently airs on BET_Africa and has previously produced; Broken Vows on ETV.
